Apparently the reports that Austin Collie suffered his fourth concussion in 21 months were hasty. A concussion has not been ruled out but there are some optimistic murmurs that testing will reveal that this recent brain rattling wasn’t a concussion. This is a very disconcerting development considering that Collie has promising skills but another concussion could threaten his career and his long term health.
FANTASY FOOTBALL SPIN
If you are drafting before the results of the tests are announced you have to avoid Collie, at least until the very late rounds. Collie is a guy that we were becoming more and more positive on and were looking at as a solid WR3, but even a positive result from testing wouldn’t convince us that you can rely on taking Collie as one of your top 3 receivers. This is a serious situation and we hope that Collie and the team put his health before his season – maybe even his career.
Obviously the ball has to go to someone and if Collie misses time Reggie Wayne is the main benefactor. He’s a decent WR3 even if Collie doesn’t miss time but a high end WR3, maybe a bit of stretch as a WR2, but if you go with TE and QB early having Wayne as your second WR wouldn’t be a disaster. Donnie Avery would get a bump as well and we would begin to pay a lot more attention to competition between Avery, T.Y. Hilton, and LaVon Brazil.
