Two reports have recently come out tying the Dolphins and their new head coach Joe Philbin to a QB search. The Miami Herald speculated that the Dolphins prefer a healthy Manning over an unproven Matt Flynn. Armando Selguero writes that the Dolphins view Flynn as a back up plan in the event that Manning is either not healthy or wooed by another franchise. Aaron Rodgers, however, seems to think that the former Packers offensive coordinator and current Dolphins HC will make a serious run at Flynn.
FANTASY FOOTBALL SPIN
The Dolphins are going to do everything they can to improve the QB position and that is very good news for the other fantasy options on the team. Brandon Marshall owners should be very happy, as long as he can stay on the straight and narrow that is. The Dolphins late season success assured that they have no chance at landing Andew Luck or Robert Griffin. We consistently see quarterbacks increase their value through the combine and pro days and a guy like Ryan Tannehill, Nick Foles, or Brandon Weeden could jump up to number eight the way Jake Locker did in 2011. Should the Dolphins strike out on a veteran QB they may even have the option of trading down in the first round to accumulate more picks and still get the third best QB in the draft, whoever than may be come draft day.
It’s really early to speculate and put a fantasy spin on all the possibilities. A healthy Manning is the best fantasy option for the Dolphins receivers and running backs, although his own value as a Dolphin won’t be what it was a Colt.
