This is only mildly surprising considering that the Cowboys have made it known that Tashard Choice has been available. Apparently the Cowboys were fed up with unrecognized potential and injury issues with Choice and saw something in the 6 carry, 34 yard, 1 TD performance from Phillip Tanner to make Choice expendable.
Earlier in the week CBS had said that if Choice cannot go versus the Eagles, Tanner could be a decent flex option.
ESPN said the move was made primarily to make space for LB Bruce Carter. If Choice clears waiver the Cowboys will owe him an injury settlement since he suffered a shoulder injury against the Rams in Week 7 (that must have been on the one tackle the Rams made).
FANTASY FOOTBALL SPIN
Phillip Tanner is a guy you should have on your roster if you have Felix Jones or Demarcus Murray. We think the emergence of Murray has the Cowboys finally convinced that Jones is nothing more than a third down back. Whether it be Murray or 6,0′, 218 lb. Tanner, we think they will get the majority of the carries. Tanner is one injury away from getting a large role and if there is one thing we have seen from Cowboys backs it’s that they get injured.
Choice will somewhere and he may not be a star, he’s unlikely to be a star, he could instantly become a valuable handcuff.
